Charleston airport passenger traffic soars to new record
More airlines flying to more destinations sent Charleston International Airport’s passenger levels soaring to a new record in May.
Last month, 435,093 people flew in and out of the state’s busiest terminal, the most so far this year for any month. That’s about 52,000 ticket holders, or 13.6 percent, more than in May last year.
“The summer travel season kicked off in May in a big way,” said Paul Campbell, executive director and CEO of the Charleston County Aviation Authority, which oversees the airport.
