South Carolina’s inaugural mass transit system, Lowcountry Rapid Transit (LCRT), is well on its way to transforming regional connectivity. At a recent event held by the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments, local leaders gathered to mark the halfway point in LCRT’s development. Set to provide reliable, 21-hour daily service along a 21.3-mile route from Ladson to downtown Charleston, the system will offer 7,600 daily trips across 20 stations. Designed with multimodal access, pedestrian safety features, and job-growth potential, LCRT promises new opportunities while preserving and enhancing the vibrancy of local communities.
