‘Heroic and selfless:’ Navy to commission ship in name of Charleston war hero Ralph Johnson
Almost 50 years after they served together in Vietnam, Clebe McClary can still see Ralph Johnson’s face.
As of late, McClary said it is all he can see.
He sees Ralph laughing. “He had a great smile.”
He sees Ralph running to take the point position on their patrols. “He worked hard — never braggadocious.”
And he can still see Ralph popping into his bunker at night, asking McClary to read him just one more ghost story. It reminded him of home.
