Charleston airport names its terminal after late Sen. Fritz Hollings

The passenger terminal at the Charleston International Airport is now the Ernest F. “Fritz” Hollings Terminal, in honor of the senator who died this month at the age of 97.

The Charleston County Aviation Authority voted to christen the airport’s unnamed single terminal on Thursday. (The airport itself will not change names.)

Hollings, who was born in Charleston and graduated from The Citadel, had already served as a state representative and lieutenant governor before he rose to the governorship in 1959. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1966, where he represented South Carolina for 38 years.
