The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) finalizes plans for a cutting-edge regional transit hub. Backed by a $25.9 million federal grant, this $31.9 million project promises a modern transport facility, the Shipwatch Square Transit and Center. Set to replace the current Super Stop, it will boast 10 bus bays equipped for electric buses, reflecting CARTA’s commitment to sustainability. Partnering with Trident Technical College, CARTA aims to nurture a skilled workforce for future electric transit needs. Scheduled for completion by 2026, this hub signals a brighter, more connected future for public transportation in the region. CARTA is administered by One Region’s Lead Agent for Infrasturcture – Roads and Highways, the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments.
